Crumb Cake (New York Style)

A sweet, buttery dessert – you will reach for seconds.

Ingredients

  • Crumble:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1½ Sticks / 150g Al Wadi Al Akhdar unsalted butter, melted

  • Cake:
  • 2½ Cups of flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ stick of Al Wadi Al Akhdar unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cup white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 Tsp vanilla
  • 2/3 Cup sour cream
  • Icing sugar for dusting

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

Step 2

Grease a baking pan.

Step 3

Make the crumb topping: In a bowl, combine together flour, cinnamon, sugar and salt. Pour warm melted butter over mixture and rub with your fingers to make medium and large clumps.

Step 4

Whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Beat in flour mixture alternating with sour cream until well combined.

Step 6

Pour batter in the baking pan and sprinkle the crumbles evenly.

Step 7

Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is browned and the skewer inserted into the center of the cup cake comes out clean.

Step 8

Transfer to a wire rack and wait until cool.

Step 9

Dust with icing sugar. Serve.
