Healthy-Meals-for-the-SummerThere’s nothing better than a refreshing snack in the sunshine, but coming up with tasty summer meals that are filling, light and refreshing at the same time can be challenging.

So let’s have a look at a couple of healthy recipes and try to make the most out of our snacks this summer by choosing foods that contribute nutritional value to our bodies and add an array of colors, flavors, textures and aromas on our tables.

Snack/Appetizer

Let’s start with the basics. If you feel like having a healthy snack or appetizer, try spreading some Hummus or Baba Ghanouj over some traditional Lebanese bread. This can be the perfect summer snack and you don’t have to make a meal out of it!

Barbecues

Not a summer goes by without people hosting or attending a barbecue. it is the ultimate gathering so try and stay light-hearted. Choose to grill something like Shish Taouk, which consists of delicious pieces of chicken that are marinated and grilled. It is a healthier alternative to dishes such as hot dogs or burgers and a good way to treat your family when you are out enjoying the sunshine. And of course, garlic sauce is a must!

Salads

We suggest that you always start your summer meals with a fresh and tasty salad. In the midst of the heat, a panache salad containing lettuce, mushrooms, carrots, artichokes, asparagus, sweet corn, and palm hearts, is the way to go. Savory and light, you can also give your salad a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil or grape vinegar to enhance the flavor and give your meal a healthy spark.

Desserts

Obviously, you’ll want to satisfy your sweet tooth right after the main course with the great ending to any meal: Mouhalabieh (Lebanese creamy pudding).  Check out our own Mouhalabieh recipe and delight yourself with that perfect, creamy summertime dessert. You can top it off with crushed pistachio nuts to carry it out.

Drinks

What’s summer without a chilled out drink? Try some Jallab, a popular Middle Eastern syrup that’s even tastier with some pine nuts and almonds!

With all these combinations, and many more recipes that you can find on our website, you are now ready for a healthy feast this summer. These light dishes are simple, healthy, delicious, and perfect for any member of your family!
