Jam Pies, Vegetable Pies And Meat Pies

Jam Pies
There is nothing more savory than jam and jam pies are perfect with your afternoon tea. The best thing is that you can prepare them with any flavor you like. Either buy a ready-to-bake dough or prepare it yourself at home. Using a glass with a wide edge, cut out circles from the dough. Spread one tablespoon of your favorite jam in the center of one circle, leaving a small border along the edges. Lightly brush the border of the dough with egg wash (1 egg beaten with a splash of cream or milk) and top it with another round of dough. Lightly press the edges together and seal well using a fork. Repeat with the other cut-out circles. Placing the pies on a baking tray covered with a baking sheet, cool them in the freezer for about 15-30 minutes. Brush the surface of the pies with the remaining egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake the pies for about 15-20 minutes in a preheated oven until golden brown. Although they smell yum right from the oven, make sure to cool them first!

Vegetable Pies
Vegetable pies are a filling meal and a good alternative to your everyday dish. You can find almost any pie recipe with your preferred vegetable. One of our favorite is the broccoli spinach and parmesan pie or the Greek spinach pie made from spinach, onions, cheeses and herbs. Another option is the delicious mushroom pie using a mix of mushrooms, onion, dried thyme and carrots. Pot pies are also pretty popular. This kind of pie is baked in a deep dish and only with a top pastry crust. You could try a recipe of vegetable pot pies made from leek, celery, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, asparagus, peas and corn kernels. Serve each one with your favorite salad.

Lebanese Meat Pie
A popular Lebanese recipe is lamb sfeeha described as a meat pie with puff pastry. Combine ground lamb meat with a chopped onion, diced tomatos, pine nuts, pomegranate molasses and season with salt, black pepper and ground cinnamon. Cut the puff pastry in squares and spread 2 tablespoons of the mixture in the center, pinching the four corners of the dough and keeping the top open. Bake the pies in a pre-heated oven for about 20-25 minutes until the meat is cooked and the pastry golden brown. Lamb sfeeha is delicious served with laban ayran.
